By staying at home, you reduce unnecessary stress from the outside world. You don't need to worry about chaotic transport and traffic situations. You also definitely won't need to worry about stressful social interaction. 

Your main goal is to survive life unscathed from unnecessary accidents or trauma which is not desirable. 

Too much cortisol and chronic stress can interfere with serotonin, making you feel tense and less happy. Low levels of serotonin can also lead to depression and anxiety and impact your quality of life.
